Beijing, China. Acting on intelligence reports suggesting increased number of phone sex among youngsters, Chinese government has decided to ban all kinds of phones and has ordered telecommunications companies to provide pager services to its citizens. Chinese authorities had been worried over such gross misuse of telephones as it was unfeasible to record and analyze each telephonic conversation. Pager messages, on the other hand, are documented and subject to verification and analysis.

“The basic need of communication can be fulfilled by pagers and the citizens should have no problem with the new law (banning the use of phones). New pager devices will be provided to the citizens that will have an outgoing call facility so that a person can immediately reply to the beep received. Common people’s welfare is our top priority.” Chinese Interior Minister Jiang Yi-Huah informed.

Many companies had started offering phone sex services in China lately, which stimulated the government into action

The outgoing call facility in the new pager devices will be connecting only to a government owned call center that will record and deliver pager messages to different numbers in the country and abroad.

This way, the government would possess documented details of all the communications among its citizens, something the government has long desired.

“We believe that such an arrangement will discourage people from having phone sex and our society will be cleaner, better and healthier.” Jiang Yi-Huah expressed confidence.

The decision by the government comes close to their spat with the internet giant Google that currently possesses the documented details of interpersonal communications of many Chinese citizens.

China had long wanted that Google allowed them access to the chat scripts and inbox details of its citizens, so that they could spot instances of sexual misconduct and deliver targeted remedial services to the offenders just like Google delivers targeted advertisements to its users. China is confident of serving and fixing its citizens with the return of the pager.

The Chinese government has termed the decision as part of their triple play service i.e. cleaning telephone, television and internet of all immoral and anti-national activities. But a few human rights activists suspect that the government is trying to control individual freedom under the garb of triple play services. But these guys have not lost all hope. They believe that the return of the pager will also bring the return of the coded language.

“Remember, 143 used to mean I love you in those days? Soon such lingo was replaced by the SMS lingo that almost made English appear like Chinese. I thought the Chinese government should have been happy with that. But it seems the government is not ready to move into the 21st century.” a human rights activist said on the conditions of anonymity, adding that the activists will have to work hard now to develop a code language that is not easily decoded by the government.
