New Delhi. In a historical decision announced on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Indian parliament today unanimously passed the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill, clearing the deck for 33% reservation for women in parliamentary and assembly seats. To secure support from all parties, a little modification was brought into the bill – there would be now 80% quota within this quota for men i.e. human-beings with masculine features.
“This is one small step for a woman, but a giant leap for the mankind.” said a visibly satisfied Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has been one of the most virulent critics of the bill in its pristine form and have been demanding a quota within quota for the socially disadvantaged groups.
Lalu Prasad Yadav and other leaders opposing the bill were quite cool with no quota for OBC, Muslims, and Dalits being provisioned in the changed bill.
“Men from these disadvantaged communities are capable enough to contest and win when pitched against men or women from different communities, we only doubted the capabilities of our women.” said an outspoken Mulayam Singh Yadav, whose daughter-in-law was defeated in a by-election last November.

Apart from these original opponents of the bill, many other members too expressed happiness after this quota within quota for men was introduced within the bill.
“Honestly, the bill makes more sense now.” said a Congress MP, with a smile.
But women rights groups have expressed outrage over the modification, claiming that the change had executed the soul of the bill. These groups are planning to move to the Supreme Court of India to get the law struck down on grounds of being unconstitutional.
“In essence, now they have debarred women from contesting 27% of the total seats, what crap is this?” protested Aarushi, a woman rights activist, swearing to fight a long drawn battle to get the bill restored and passed in its original form.
Interestingly, one of the legal recourses being considered by some of these activists is to interpret the definition of ‘men’ in the changed bill.
“Since they have defined men as human beings with masculine features, we could argue that women with masculine features qualify for the reservation. And perhaps that’s what is needed. Women need to adopt some masculine features like aggression and violence, if they are to be taken seriously for political participation.” postulated Rakhi Sawant, a leading feminist and lawyer.

Women say they are equal, but inside their hearts they know they are very weak, hence they want reservation, because they know in direct contest with men they are no match. If this bill passes it will prove that WOMEN ARE WEAK, not only physically.

I am a woman and I constitute 50% of the population. and I want equal partnership in all decision making process of the govt. which is deciding my future, my security and my life. that is I want an equal participation in the law making process, for eg. laws against rape, against foeticide, against trafficking, for security, for education, for health… So I want mroe women in the decision making process. This govt. cannot rule the women if doesn’t take into consideration the voice of the women and the plight they are facing due to some stupin male lawmakers.

Nobody is stopping women from contesting in the elections and representing them selves and womens problems in the assemblies, if a person man or women deserves and has a mandet from the people they should be sent to the state assemblies, giving these kinds of reservations is completely unconstitutional and should be stopped. these reservations will only benifit the women (non deserving) who want to enter these powerfull positions without giving others (men ) even a right to contest for the election. people who are supporting these kind of bills are only interested in woman votes they have nothing to do with anybodies welfare. the women like girija wyas ( president of women comission ) should be ashamed of their cowardness , she is a terrorist and is spreading social terrorism in the indian society. she shoul be shot dead. women should be given all the opportinities to be at power with men , but not through reservations . giving reservation is against the human rights of men .

This bill is an attack on a very basic right of every Indian citizen of electing the best person they believe could be for the constituency, for the unjustifiable reason that He is not a woman!
Takes away a very basic right of a male Indian citizen to be able to contest an election from the place of his choice and being able to serve his fellowmen.
This bill, if passed, will mean that all the current honorable members of parliament believe that Men leaders are incapable of taking care of the interests of women in country, and treating them in a fair manner. How true or false is the above perception, can be easily answered by the fact that today, the president of the largest political party, the president of lok sabha, and the president of India are all women! (I sincerely congratulate them) Any sane calculation will testify that women in India are by no means hindered if they have the willingness, and any demands for a quota could very well be termed as opportunism, trying to milk the widespread sympathy for women everywhere.
Today we have a strength more than 10% of women in parliament, which if analyzed carefully, is a good number, given the fact that very few women as compared to men choose to go to politics from as early as their college days. There nothing stopping them, and if they are willing to do so, their number will come up automatically. Apparently, it’s a matter of choice and not that of repression of women, and can be taken care of easily without any reservations.
This will bring hatred and frustration towards the unfair system, into the young (and old) men of this country who want their fair share of opportunities in the next election, to serve their neighborhood and the nation. Creating gender inequality in no means can be the best way to bring gender equality!
We are not against any progress of women in the country, we in fact are happy to see countless organizations working day and night for welfare of women. If they continue the good work, that day is not very far that they can happily close their shutters and the woman in India can take a flight on her own!

Why do you want a crutch to support yourself? I’m all for women in the industry, and in decision making and all, but why reservations? Not just gender-based, religion- and caste-based as well. Anybody who wants to achieve something should do it on his merits. I’d make my enterprise 100% women-populated, if they show the zeal to take it forward. The only basis for any position anywhere should be the capability to achieve, and nothing else.
