Sania Mirza to lead Indian cricket team during Asian Games

Hyderabad. Newly-wed tennis star Sania Mirza has declared that she was willing to lead and represent India at cricket during the Asian Games after BCCI refused to send its teams for the world’s second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. Sania believes that she has learnt enough cricket in the past few months thanks to Shoaib Malik, and she stands better chance to win medals in cricket than in tennis.

“I have not been able to concentrate on tennis since my marriage and I’m not too confident about my abilities there. But I saw Shoaib practicing cricket, and god, it’s such a simple game! If he could lead Pakistan, I could surely lead India.” Sania told Faking News in an exclusive interview.

Sania is giving more importance to cricket than BCCI, some experts believe

Although Sania has never played cricket at international level, she is confident of representing India and even leading the team during Asiad that will be held in China later in November this year.

“I endorse many products and am well known in media; I guess I have the necessary qualifications to become captain of the team.” Sania said, although she agreed that if BCCI had resolved to send their original team to Asiad, she might not have been so insistent.

“Well, I might have tried to get into the men’s cricket team in that situation, as women’s cricket team has really been performing better recently and I might not have been much of a value-add there. But men’s team, yes, I see a chance there.” Sania said.

The decision by Sania Mirza is being seen by experts as a bold attempt to silence her critics who had questioned her commitment to India after getting married to a Pakistani. The decision is also expected to put pressure on BCCI to send its teams because cricket has been included for the first time in Asian Games and is being seen as an important development before it makes an appearance at Olympics Games.

“I would be most willing to help her out. I guess this is the best that can happen to Indian cricket.” said Lalit Modi, suspended IPL commissioner, who also offered to help in putting up a team for India for the Asian Games as cricket would be played in T20 format.

Nobody from the BCCI or the Indian Olympic Association was willing to comment on this whole issue.

  6. WTF… Cricket being most cheerished game in India… still these people didn’t send any team to ASIAD games .. WTF.. This shows the game is becoming an money event rather than bringing peace and proud to the country..

In case you didn’t know, INDIA doesn’t have a cricket team. It is BCCI who owns cricket, and since BCCI is not a country as yet, they couldn’t send a team to Asiad….

Well my proposal is that we change our national game to Boxing…. Cricket may continue to be the ANTI-NATIONAL game..
