IIM student skips placement to get employed with Kingfisher Airlines

Ahmedabad. In one of the most daring decisions taken by any MBA student in recent years, an IIM Ahmedabad student has opted out of the campus placements to get a job with Kingfisher Airlines. 26-year-old Siddharth Malviya claims that his undying spirit of doing something interesting was behind his decision to choose an uncertain future with Kingfisher Airlines over a secured corporate career with a plush salary.

“I didn’t want to opt out of placements to take up those sundry entrepreneurial or social works,” Siddharth told Faking News after sending an email to Vijay Mallya, where he offered his services to the beleaguered airlines in return for a modest remuneration of 5000 rupees per month.

Siddharth is one of the nine students from the graduating batch who have decided to opt out of the campus placements to do something of their own. The other eight students are starting up their own promising ventures but Siddharth is the only one who is taking up a job with an apparently failing venture.

“That doesn’t bother me,” Siddharth said, “Employment with Kingfisher will give me exposure to depleting cash reserves, employee dissatisfaction, customer anger, conflicts with government, and consistently negative media coverage – something that will help me learn a lot when compared to my batchmates.”

“I will have the most unique learning curve,” he said, using an MBA term to emphasize his claims.

Siddharth also offered to comment over whether the government should bailout private sector companies and other issues like the European financial crisis, but Faking News decided to keep the interview limited to his decision of getting a job with Kingfisher Airlines.

“That’s nonsense!” Siddharth rejected reports that his decision was inspired by a bottle of Kingfisher Beer that he had illegally obtained in Ahmedabad or his love for Deepika Padukone.

A former software engineer with three years of work experience in an e-commerce company, Siddharth is hopeful of turning Kingfisher Airlines into an “e-aviation” company with his expertise.

“I will explain that once the turnaround is achieved,” Siddharth explained the “pseud” term he used to define his deliverables that he’d be targeting as the CTO (Chief Turnaround Officer – a post that he asked for in his email to senior Mallya) of Kingfisher Airlines.

Faking News tried to contact Dr. Vijay Mallya for his comments over the reverse job offer by Siddharth, but we couldn’t connect. Sources suggest that incoming calls on senior Mallya’s mobile number have been discontinued because of non-payment of dues.
