New Delhi. Onion prices continue to rise across metros in India with rates touching Rs 80 per kg in some places.
Poor supply has pushed wholesale onion prices to a four-year high. But Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, has assured voters of tough measures to tackle the high prices. The government will provide security to people carrying and walking with more than 5 Kg onions.
Commandos will be given to people carrying more than 10Kg onions. She has assured people that however high the prices are they should not stay away from buying onions as onions are the key ingredient in most Indian dishes. Karan Johar is so impressed with the high price of onions that he will show 5-minute footage of Onions in his next movie. Onions, as they say, are expressionless just like Arjun Kapoor.
Military personnel will be stationed near places selling Onions and more security will be provided to restaurants selling ‘Chicken do Pyaza’. Nirmala Sitharaman believes that it is the duty of the government to protect people and high onion prices are good for the economy as that means farmers are getting good price.
Robert Vadra has also asked his team to grow onions on the widespread land pockets that he owns in different parts of the country.
