New Delhi: After the Coronavirus scare pushed the government into announcing a lockdown, Doordarshan decided to introduce several old favorites like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shaktimaan etc to help people enjoy their time while being stuck indoors.
However, the broadcast of Mahabharat has hit a bump after an advisory by the Ministry of Health. The Health Ministry has said that due to the social distancing norms being followed, 5 people cannot appear together, so all the Pandavs should not be shown on-screen at the same time.
Speaking to Faking News, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health said, “The best way to defeat this virus is by maintaining social distance. 5 people or more should not gather at the same place, because that increases the risk of transmission of the virus exponentially. As Government, we should be setting an example for the rest of the nation, and Doordarshan is part of the government. Therefore, there should be social distancing in all the TV shows currently on DD.”
“If all 5 Pandavs continue to appear on-screen together, then it will send wrong message to the public that it is ok to gather in numbers. We have asked DD’s team and the show’s producers to edit some scenes and use some technology to make one of them disappear in every scene, since it is not possible to shoot new scenes with the same actors now,” he added.
When asked if they will apply the same rule for 100 Kauravs, he replied ,”No, not necessary, they all die anyway, so maybe we can add a warning at the bottom that all of them could have lived if they had followed social distancing.”
Meanwhile, several politicians, accompanied by 100s of supporters, have taken to the streets to advice people to follow social distancing.
