Govt thinks of removing Pahlaj Nihalani from censor board, editors go on strike fearing loss of job

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani, who has been at the center of several controversies, could be on his way out, according to government sources.A meeting of CBFC members has been called by Nihalani in Thiruvananthapuram on July 28. Ministry of information and broadcasting sources said it has been indicated to Nihalani that he might be replaced. This comes as a major shocker to the Editors in the industrty whose sole job was to cut out the part in the film which Nihalani objected to. In fact many editors have gone on strike effective from today.

Nihalani had attracted interest from every corner when he objected to content in many films in the past 2 years, but his strong objection to ‘InduSarkar’ came to be the final nail in the coffin. But the government indirectly was benefited a lot by Pahlaj as many editors survived in the competitive industry just because of him. Pahlaj used to oppose every possible film and had a long list of objectionable content. Due to his objections, filmmakers had started hiring extra editors so as to cut the precise part mentioned by Pahlaj.

One of the striking editors named Harneet Ahuja spoke to Faking News and he had this to say,”  Although Pahlaj ji has been harsh on the film makers, he has been a bread provider for so many editors like me. I have been part of the editing teams of ‘Udta Punjab’, Befikre’, ‘Tubelight’ and many more. I have gained professional editing experience just because of the chances provided by Pahlaj sir. Now we are in a spot of complete darkness hovering over our futures in this industry. May be the new CBFC chief is lenient and he will not provide a any scope of editing in a movie.”
