Bengal: The penultimate Game of Thrones episode, “The Bells,” was the exact opposite of what has been happening in the show over the years. People killing each other without any reason was never the highlight of the show but it was the only focus in the latest episode. It wasn’t a war that descended on King’s Landing. It was pure devastation.
This was a massacre, just wholesale violence for the sake of violence. But the producers have justified the inclusion of so much violence saying that they were losing the TRP race to the violence in Bengal.
Campaigning for the last phase of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal took a violent turn Tuesday as bottles, bricks and stones flew freely and a bust of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was destroyed. This is not the only incident of violence in Bengal this election season, but it was one among many. GOT producers were aware of these happenings since last 2-3 years and thought that their latest episode should be so violent that people would shift focus from the Bengal violence to the GOT episode.
After the Tuesday’s incident in Bengal, many predict that the last episode of GOT would be even more violent and people are already waiting for the producers to unleash violence to the next level, a level never seen before.
