Recently, country has witnessed a few incidents of arrest of common people for making controversial jokes. A boy of age 17 was arrested by Mamata Government for a facebook post, after that an FIR was lodged against a group of comedians for morphing dog’s image over PM Modi’s image. Comedians are now famous for deliberately hurting sentiments of a group of people and when they don’t do it people don’t consider them comedians. On Friday evening an incident happened that united youths across the nation in a really short time. A popular standup comedian, Sohan Joshi was performing at Pheonix Mall, Kurla and was making fun of engineers. Sohan was trying to make people laugh when a man from the audience stood up and asked Sohan “Abey tere jokes sunne nahi aaye hain.. kuch gaali vaali de”. Apparantly more people laughed on this man’s statement than that of comedian. We spoke to a struggling comedian, Ashutosh about the issue. Apparantly Ashutosh was also there when the Sohan’s incident happened. Ashutosh said “I have recently started performing, I prepared a sketch on Bollywood movie bloopers. One joke was on Zayed Khan, while most of the people were unaware about who is Zayed Khan & those people who knew started throwing stuffs at me saying why you are making fun of a minority. Next day I became the headline. I have realized that audience now is different than what it used to be during Jaspal Bhatti. While arresting people for making jokes is certainly killing our freedom of expression but at the same time these arrests have made more people stand than national anthem in theatres ever did.
