Five star facilities to Tihar Jail Inmates
The TAJ group of hotels this week entered into a 10 crore agreement with the central government to provide 5 star facilities to inmates inside the Tihar Jail Campus. After getting a no- objection certificate (NOC) from the government panel headed by DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi, the TAJ group of hotels announced the plan on their website. The company spokesman said “There has been a significant increase in the number of high-profile candidates coming to Tihar Jail, and they have been the complaining of poor facilities. Keeping the rising demand in mind, the company has decided to take this step.”
As per the agreement, the TAJ group will provide quality infrastructure which include air conditioned suite-cum-prisons along with swimming pool, health club and library facilities. The re-construction of these prisons will start early next month and company plans to complete it by 2013. This will make Tihar Jail as the most sought after prison in the country. In the past, many of its high profile inmates have questioned the facilities being provided by the authorities. They have also supported the decision and believe that verdicts like life imprisonment would now be readily accepted by the criminals.
The DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi welcomed the move as he believes that better accommodation is a human right of the prisoners. According to him, the facilities will keep inmates fit and healthy and will also make them feel at home. On the other hand, UP chief minister Mayawati has termed the move as “pointless and discriminating.” She tweeted “The government is discriminating between high profile inmates of the Tihar Jail and the suffering Dalit prisoners in Uttar Pradesh” from her twitter account.
