Koodankulam, Tamil Nadu. September 22.
The 12-day-old fast and mass agitation by fisherfolk and villagers in the Southern tip of India near Kanyakumari demanding scrapping of the Koodankulam nuclear power project was on Thursday completely called off after Prime Minister agreed to halt the project after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sent a Tamil Nadu Government's cabinet resolution.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her cabinet passed a resolution requesting the Centre to send back the Koodankulam machinery designed by Russians back to Chernobyl. This volte face by Prime Minister and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, both ardent lovers of nuclear power, came after Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy visited the protest site on Tuesday and informed both the PMO and CM that he tried his best to convince the agitating thousands that 'nuclear power is the safest, cleanest and most efficient energy in the world.'
When asked by a fisherwoman Ms. Arokiai Mary from Idinthakarai village as to what is the atomic number of Uranium, he replied that he only knows the mind-boggling numbers of billions and billions in the 2G scam of his comrades from Tamil Nadu.
Mr. V Narayanasamy also tried to allay the fears of thousands of the fisherfolk in the fast and agitation on Tuesday by assuring them that the nuclear power station will be a real boon to the poor of Tamil Nadu and it's latest technology know as 4G will not be an impediment to the fishing activity. Fisherman Thangaraj from Tirunelveli shouted from the crowd "Do you know that this power station will discharge over 6-7,000MwTh of hot nuke-water into the sea every day. Can we survive by selling deep-nuclear boiled fish?" PM's man-friday Minister Mr. V Narayanasamy cleverly retorted "Yes, what a great idea, a new white-meat menu sought by the mighty rich, bold and beautiful Whites. I will sms PMO and Tourism Minister just now — and quickly get it flashed on our tourism campaign toay. How about this caption in our ads – "Lobsters nuke-boiled-grilled only in Incredible India!" or "Prawns Nagasakied only in Incredible India!" A small group of about 13 teenage techies who had accompanied the minister cheered him. One of them, Mr. Villager Mani Srinivasan holding an American passport was full with glee. He said that his relative Minister Mr. V Narayanasamy is his role model who "will intensify Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's dream of shooting India's GDP over 15% by such nuke value-addition to the food and tourism industry. I know many Americans and Russian love such creative ethnic delicacies that will split their genes."
