When several IIMs have decided to award special marks to the female and non-engineering candidates in order to diversify their campus which is right now swarming with geeky engineering guys, Indian Institute of Sales and Management has come up with an innovative idea which, they think, will hit the right note. IISM, which has been successfully churning out successful managers in every field for last two decades, will give out calls for GD-PI on the basis of candidates' facebook profile this year.
"After many deliberations we have come to this solution which will eventually prove the folly of conducting such a humongous test like the CAT. We have done a comprehensive survey in which we tried to contact nearly every management aspirants in India to know whether they use facebook or not. And the answers were affirmative. This phenomenal positive response gave us the confidence to tread this new path. ”, said an IISM official on condition of anonymity.
In order to be a successful manager one needs to excel in networking and facebook makes it possible for everybody to network with virtually everyone. In this system a candidate is not going to be judged by the performance of a single day. The procedure needs the candidates to be more consistent and goal-oriented.
While filling up the form for IISM, the candidates just need to put down the facebook link to their homepage. This will relieve the potential candidates of the rigors of filling up minor details showing how they have fared in the examinations in past and will give them more time to concentrate on facebooking more diligently, IISM claims.
Special considerations will be given those female candidates who have more than 1500 friends in their FB friend list while keeping a "committed" relationship status."We think they can perform better than their peers under pressure. Moreover, it seems that they have their plan B, C, D lined up if their plan A ever fails. As an aspiring manager every candidate should know how to have a back-up plan in right place and he or she should be open-minded enough to take an unbiased decision”, said the Dean of the institute.
Different weightages will be given to different activities like posting FB statuses, uploading new display pictures etc. Frequency of these activities shows candidates’ ability to work hard. “Psychometric analysis of candidates’ FB profile will be done and the new “Timeline” feature of Facebook will help us in gathering the information about a candidate since the time he or she has open up a FB account.” said the head of Admission Department of IISM.
