Apple to conduct final round of testing for face recognition feature by using Honeypreet’s images before and after her arrest

On the run for over a month, Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of jailed godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was finally taken into custody by the Haryana police. The Special Investigating Team (SIT) that is interrogating Honeypreet , reportedly fired some 40-odd questions at the former Dera fugitive- who had nothing but head nods and silences to offer. The police is also concerned about the change in her appearance as she looks pretty different than when last seen with Baba Ram Rahim.

Her photos have been flooding the internet and people are amused at the visible change in her face. It may be due to less access to make up, stress, irregular food habits and much more. But the change is not going to be a complete waste as Apple has come forward to use it to give a better customer experience. As we are already aware of the face recognition technology to come with Apple’s latest iPhones, Apple now wants to do a final round of testing by using Honeypreet’s images. Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that if the iPhone is able to recognize her images before and after the arrest and is able to unlock itself then the technology is fullproof and ready to enter the market. If not then Apple will have to do some more research and come out with a better solution.

The technology first developed in the 1960s has since been mostly relegated to the realm of government agencies and high-security firms and Apple wants it to make a household name pretty soon and the so called ‘Honeypreet’ test will be very important in realizing this dream. Apple technical team has already contacted the Haryana police to allow then access to all photographs of Honeypreet.
