Mumbai: In a swift response to famous comedian Kapil Sharma’s tweet, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended its officials who asked for a bribe from the famous comedian. As per sources, senior officials at BMC are angry that their juniors are asking for such small amount as bribe even from Crorepatis like Kapil.

Kapil Sharma is the leading comedian in India at the moment and his TV show is among the most popular shows on Indian television. Immediately after seeing his tweet mentioning that he pays income tax of 15 Crores and is being asked for a bribe of 5 lakhs, BMC swung into action and decided to take action against these petty bribe takers.

“If we are going to take such a small amount from people paying Income Tax of 15 Crores, then what will we take from common people as bribe, Beedi ka bundle? Even Kapil directly tagged the PM instead of calling us, now the issue has gone national and other municipalities are laughing at us for our low bribe rate. These officials have to face action for destroying the market rate of bribes and bringing BMC into disrepute”, a senior BMC official said.

“We are the richest municipality in India. We have certain standard to live up to. If these officials have low standards personally then they should have thought about the high standards of BMC. So many parents motivate their children for a government job by telling them tales of the huge bribes you can get by working in BMC, what will those kids think now? Once we heard about the amount of bribe being asked, we knew these officials have to be suspended. We have also issued them a show cause notice to explain why they should not be terminated”, the official added.

Meanwhile, the cast of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ has gone on strike demanding a salary hike after estimating Kapil Sharma’s salary from his income tax.
