The Janmashtami festivities at Dadar’s Hindmata area came to a momentary halt after the Govinda, who was assigned the task of breaking the handi, indulged in taking selfies instead. It was later found out after breaking the handi that even the curd inside turned sour due to the delay.

Speaking to Faking News, Rahul Joshi, supervisor of the Dahi Handi event said, “We had practiced for a 20 feet handi, but when we arrived here we found out that the handi was tied higher than 20 feet. So we decided to use a selfie stick to break the matki. But when our Govinda was handed the stick, he used it to take selfies and he just wouldn’t stop. So much that the curd inside the handi turned sour.”

When questioned if he reason for his disappointment was the inedible curd, he said, “No, it’s not the curd that I am concerned about. We lost the prize money. Our competitors beat us by a small margin. Had our govinda done it in time, we could have won 10 lakhs.”

“Through your medium I will request the honorable Supreme Court to put a ban on selfie sticks too,” he added.

Though the mandal failed to win any prize money, the selfies taken by the govinda went viral with many praising him for his photography skills.
