Fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya has made yet another offer to pay his dues after he urged the Finance Minister to spare the RBI and take money from him instead. Mallya said that he was ready to pay the entire 6000 Crore back, which would help him to clear his dues and also save the RBI from depleting its resources.
In yet another desperate plea, Mallya said that he had the money ready and was just waiting for the green signal from the Govt. “I am begging the Govt to take the money from me. Why isn’t anyone listening to me. They can save the surplus RBI money if they just heed my advice,” he said while speaking to our reporter.
Sources say that the beleaguered tycoon is trying hard to find favor with the Govt by launching a counter attack on Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul had earlier accused the Govt of stealing from the RBI. To which Mallya said, “Rahul doesn’t know the difference between stealing and taking funds. Ask me, I know the difference because I did it with the banks.”
Mallya also supported the FM on her statement where she said ‘I can’t comment how the funds will be utilized’, while referring to the money from RBI. Mallya said that he too said something similar when he approached SBI for loan.
“When I went to the banks for money, they wanted to know how I’d be using the funds. I told them I cannot comment on it. And yet they gave me the money,” he added.
Sources from the Finance Ministry say that they are actively considering Mallya’s offer but refused to reveal if his offer will be accepted.
“If Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Mallya all make an offer, then we can have them on the discussion table,” said a source from the Ministry.
