Sunday morning started as a day of doing a good deed for Mumbai’s VJTI engineer Pulkit Mehra. Pulkit decided to take part in a blood donation drive held by the college trust in Matunga. But what did Pulkit know that his alcohol rich and marijuana rich blood will get the recipient high for 3 days.
However bizarre this may sound, it is true! We interviewed Pulkit during his lunch break in college and here’s what he had to say “For the first time in my life, I had decided to donate blood. But I didn’t know that it would do this to the recipient. Look, I am a Punjabi from Delhi. You may have heard the phrase “Daaru peena humare khoon me hota hai” (Drinking alcohol is in our blood). Only this time, it translated into reality literally! All of us friends party on Saturday and Sunday ever since I joined VJTI. We smoke weed every night” Our reported had assured him that none of this was going to go on record so he opened himself up. “But this Saturday night, we were out of weed. So to compensate for the lack of highness that weed would have given us, all of us drank 5 pegs extra. 5 pegs for us Punjabis is like 5 sips. We don’t even get hangovers. So I was up early at Sunday as I had registered for the blood donation drive. I didn’t know that you’re not supposed to drink or smoke before donating blood. So I went ahead and donated blood. I had no idea that it would get the recipient high for 3 days.”
The recipient of Pulkit’s blood, Mr. Varun Sharma, has been a vegetarian all his life, has never drank alcohol or smoked a cigarette, leave alone smoking marijuana. However, after receiving Pulkit’s blood he started behaving absurdly like speaking gibberish, dancing on tables, shouting “Aaj gaadi tera bhai chalayega” (Today your brother, I, will drive the car), etc. When the high got off after 3 days, Varun said that he had never experienced such joy before and is planning to start drinking alcohol.
