IRCTC website hangs after Lok Sabha passes reservation bill

10, Jan 2019 By Guest Patrakar

The IRCTC website has undergone several modifications and technical improvements in recent times. However, the website slowed down again, this time due to a rumour or rather a misinformation that got circulated. On Tuesday, the Modi government had brought the Constitutional Amendment Bill to Lok Sabha which was passed by the house. However, WhatsApp did what it does best – spreading rumours.

After it was reported that the government has introduced 10% reservation for the general class. The natural question that came up was, what about the AC class?

Soon the message got viral and millions of people opened up the IRCTC website to check whether they are eligible for the reservation, leading to the website slowing down. It’s not the first time that IRCTC website has suffered a slowdown. A few days ago, heavy fog had made the website run slow.

Faking News Reporter spoke to a senior railway official who had come late to the office. The officer said, “See, it slowed down due to heavy traffic. Every time there’s water logging, there’s traffic”. After telling him that we were referring to the IRCTC website running slow, the officer said, “Aah! it’s not a big thing. Don’t make a mountain out of a mole”.

Following the news of the website slowing down, railway minister Piyush Goyal clarified through a series of tweets that steps will be taken to increase the speed of the website by increasing the server RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB.

In another tweet, Piyush Goyal mentioned that apart from the website, the Railways is exploring other methods for booking train tickets via Tweet, text message, phone call and Tinder match with railway official account.
