After his spat with Harsha Bhogle yesterday over visibility of pink ball, Sanjay Manjrekar seems to have incensed the medical community in the country. The commentator today said that MBBS degrees were a waste of time and he knew more about diseases than any doctor. “You don’t need to study medicine for five and half years to become a doctor. All you need is a good internet connection. Just Google the symptoms and you’ll know what is wrong with your health. I do that all the time and can’t recollect the last time I paid visit to a doctor.”
“Monthly internet subscriptions are cheaper than doctors fee. Does it not make financial sense to you,” he questioned.
To bolster his viewpoint, Sanjay Manjrekar gave the example of Munnabhai MBBS. “He did not have an MBBS degree. Yet he cured so many patients with just a magical hug. The point that I am trying to make here is that I know more about everything than anyone else. Be it cricket or medicine or any other field. So anyone who wants to get into an argument with me should keep that in mind,” the commentator added.
Social media was on fire after Sanjay’s latest comments. Doctors from across the country expressed disapproval and anger and even called for action against him. Resident doctors from AIIMS, armed with placards, were seen protesting inside the campus. Some of them are even planning to meet Sourav Ganguy to get Manjrekar removed from the panel of commentators.
One doctor that our reporter spoke to said that he has already refused to treat patient with ‘Sanjay’ as their first name.
