Under-fire Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has found an ally, fellow member of wicket- keepers’ union and former Indian stalwart Nayan Mongia. Nayan Mongia was all praise for MSD after the game against England at the World Cup and told reporters that the innings reminded him of some of his own similar efforts from the 90s.
Speaking to reporters outside Manoj Prabhakar’s residence, Mongia said, “It was refreshing to see that approach in this era of mindless slogging. MS concentrated on singles and leaves, as a mature cricketer should. Why try and slog, just to get out. A solid not out is more valuable to a team than a couple of sixes.”
“This performance from Dhoni took me right back to my glory days of 1994 when I used to chase a target in a similar manner. However, like great painters, I wasn’t appreciated in my own time and was handed a ban for not trying to hit sixes.
However, Dhoni smartly sneaked in a six at the end to stop that criticism dead in its tracks. This is where a modern cricketer is smarter”, the former Indian keeper added.
When asked if India should replace Dhoni with DK or Pant, Mongia said, ”What? They should replace Pant with someone like me! He was trying to score too quickly when the situation demanded a cool, calm 15*(50). Hope selectors make a note of it and drop him from the next game.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board has complained to ICC that as experts in match fixing, they can tell that India-England match was fixed, and should be investigated appropriately.
