Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, critically acclaimed for his presence on social media, was awarded the Filmfare for Best Actor in a Meme. The star studded award ceremony took place in Mumbai today and sought to honor the best in Bollywood.
This year the awards management committee looked beyond conventional categories and include digital as well. “We need to embrace the rise of digital media. That is the future of content. So we are moving beyond movies and entering the world of memes and TikTok videos,” said an event official.
Speaking on Nawauddin’s win he remarked, “There is no doubt that the Nawazuddin is the undisputed king of meme’s. Not other actor has starred in as many memes in the last couple of years that Nawaz has. In fact it was hardly a decision for us. The jury was unanimous.”
The actor too looked visibly pleased after receiving the award. While speaking to media persons he said, “Aap Google pe sirf Nawazuddin type karke search karo. Mere movies ke pehle mere memes aate hain.”
While commenting on the turn his career has taken, in his characteristic way Nawaz replied, “Apun ko life me kuch daring karneka tha. Kabhi kabhi lagta hai meme ki duniya ka apun hich bhagwaan hai.”
Though social media resonated with Nawaz’s sentiment, many felt that Radhika Apte deserved an honorable mention. The were also reports that Apte, also referred to as official screensaver of Netflix as miffed at not having found a mention in the list of nominees in the aforementioned category.
The actress later dismissed the report and said that she was happy for Nawazuddin that the actor totally deserved the award for his contribution to making memes.
