Chandigarh. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmaker Bhagwant Mann, who has often been accused of drunken behavior in public, revealed on Sunday that he had given up drinking on his mother’s advice. And promptly got a back-slapping endorsement from party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who called it a “big sacrifice”. But the Punjab government is not so happy with the decision as they predict huge revenue loss if Mann stops drinking.
Mann has been a big contributor to the revenue for the liquor industry and his drinking habits kept Punjab’s coffers full. Now that he has stopped drinking, the Punjab Government officials have a big task at hand to compensate the revenue loss. And they have taken a major step in addressing the issue. The revenue department in coordination with the tourism ministry has invited Ravi Shastri to spend 2 days every month in Punjab with the stay sponsored by the State and help the liquor shops to earn profits again.
Ravi Shastri has been given a detailed presentation about the tourism places to visit during his stay and also a list of ‘Chakhnas’ which he can enjoy in Punjab with his drinks. Only time will tell if Shastri will accept the invitation or not but given the free time he has during the IPL season, he should try and utilize that time to help the Punjab Government.
