A rat who nibbled a packet of curd on Shatabdi train was admitted to city veterinary hospital with high fever and dehydration. The railway staff discovered the the rat in the 2AC compartment and initially thought it was dead.
It is not yet clear if the packet of curd is responsible for the rat’s health problem. Sample of the curd has been sent to food testing lab and results are awaited.
Railways officials that our reporter spoke to said that the all quality checks are done on the food that is served to passengers on the train. “Hygiene is our topmost priority. We don’t compromise on anything when it comes to food items. It’s true that the rat nibbled on food but to say that it fell sick because of it is overreaction,” said a senior official.
A few reporters were seen in the train compartment at the spot where the rat was last found and were even seen trying to construct the entire sequence of events. The hospital is expected to release a medical status report later this evening, sources however say that the rat’s conditions is stable at the moment and continues to be monitored.
Govt has meanwhile announced compensation for the rat’s family.
