People of Chennai had to face a harrowing ordeal due to bus strike in the city today. One rickshaw driver however was all smiles after he became the richest man in the country for a brief moment. Venkatesh Raju, who drives his rickshaw in the city of Chennai, saw his net worth soar to 42 Bn USD in just 8 hours after ferrying passengers for astronomical fares.

Though Venkatesh refused to share the exact amount he managed to fleece out of passengers but said that if the bus strike continues for a few more days then he might just upstage Jeff Bezos. Our reporter visited Venkatesh at his under construction house Ventilla which is being made on the lines of Antilla. Apart from all the usual luxuries that depict wealth, the house will also have a huge glass showcase to keep the rickshaw meter which he never used, just to remind him of his humble beginnings.

Not just Venkatesh other rickshaw drivers too minted a significant amount of money. Apparently, one driver made so much wealth that he now has his own Kaun Banega Crorepati show.

Looking at the prospect of making enormous amount of money, the country’s largest bank put most of it’s staff on deputation as rickshaw drivers in Chennai. “As per our calculations we found that all our debts, including that of Mallya, will be taken care of if our employees drive rickshaw for a day in the city. We have to make most of this situation. Who knows when the strike could be called off,” said a senior official from the HR department.

When questioned about the appropriateness of the entire exercise he replied, “Jyada farak nahi hai. Bank me bhi minimum balance lagake fleece kar rahe the. Ab rickshaw chalake karenge.
