Silk Board Bengaluru and Hero Honda Chowk Gurgaon to compete for the best traffic jam in India

05, Aug 2016 By Sandeep Kadian

New Delhi: Two heavyweights of traffic jams, Silk Board junction and hero Honda Chowk are set to lock horns to settle the debate over the best traffic jam in the country. Ministry of urban development is going to honour the winning city in a special program in Delhi next month.

Are you stuck in the best traffic jam in India?

While Silk Board junction in Bengaluru frustrates commuters daily for hours, Hero Honda Chowk in Gurgaon has long been considered tougher to cross than a burning river on a wooden boat. Taking note of their reputations, urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu decided to organize this competition to find out which one is better.

“These 2 places are the pride of our urban development. Long traffic jams show us how quickly our economy is growing and how the boom is helping our people buy more and more cars. These traffic jams show the world that India is developing very quickly so we must encourage these jams by starting this competition. This year we have only these 2 places but as we move on, we will add more and more places”, Mr. Naidu said.

Observers appointed by the ministry will travel to Bengaluru and Gurgaon to experience these traffic jams first hand. After 3 days each in both the places, they will give their feedback to the minister who will then decide the winner.

“It is not just the time taken to cross these places that will be taken into account. Other variables will also come into play. Things like how much the driver gets irritated, how many people are honking needlessly, how many fights break out during every jam, how many cars get scratched, all these things will be taken into account”, Mr. Naidu said explaining the process.

Both Karnataka and Haryana governments have welcomed this news and have promised their active participation. As per sources, Haryana is not taking any chances and CM Khattar has promised Jats reservation if they protest at Hero Honda Chowk during this competition.
