Venice, CA: In an effort to win back the Indian market, Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel, has issued an official statement saying that Virat Kohli is a much better batsman than Steve Smith. Spiegel issued this statement after hundreds of thousands of Indians called for a boycott of Snapchat over his alleged remark on India.
A lawsuit by a Snapchat ex-employee Anthony Pompliano alleges that Spiegel had said, “I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.” Even though Snap Inc has rubbished these claims, that didn’t stop many media outlets from reporting it as the truth. That initiated the boycott and downvoting campaign against the app. Now to reverse the damage, Spiegel has come out in praise of Indian captain Virat Kohli.
The statement by Spiegel says that while Virat Kohli is superbly consistent in all forms of the game, Smith is great only in test cricket. He also mentions that Smith may have cheated with the DRS referrals during the recent India-Australia test series.
When we asked a Snap inc spokesperson if this statement will now affect their growth in the Australian market, he said ,”One problem at a time mate. If Aussies start boycotting, we will say Shane Warne deserved to be the highest wicket taker since Murali used to chuck. Then we will find something to calm the Lankans. PR is all about fire fighting and currently we have a fire in India so lets deal with that on priority.”
When asked if they will take any action against the media outlets that played this allegation as the truth, the spokesperson said ,”We have nothing against these media outlets. We are more concerned about the people who still take the news at their face value. We wish them well.”
Meanwhile, some people have started downvoting Snapdeal on the app store out of habit.
