Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) hosted a convocation ceremony to give achievement certificate to all the potholes who have graduated to mini lakes in last decade or so.

For the convocation ceremony BBMP had invited its staff, contractors, corporators who have worked relentlessly for their nurtured potholes to reach such glory.

Mr. Manjunath, BBMP staff who is the caretaker for a pothole in K.R.Puram ward spoke from the podium. He said, “You feel happy when you see someone whom you have nurtured grows to something this big. I was called to present the vital statistics of my pothole oops sorry, we should no more call it pothole, it’s a lake now. I mean, the length, breadth, depth, water carrying capacity of my lake. In all aspects it comes in top three in Bengaluru. I am assuring all of you, will work hard for next one year to take it to the top”.

“One statistician attending the function here, sitting beside me, added the water carrying capacity of these new lakes created in middle of roads. He said, they carry more water than that is in Cauvery basin right now”, added Manjunath pointing to the statistician.

Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) officials present there were not happy with the accolades BBMP staff were taking. BDA commissioner Mukesh Singh announced, “We will issue a tender to build a steel bridge on top of HSR layout ‘mini’ lake which has won the top award. Draining out so much water from such lakes in the middle of road won’t be possible. Let us be practical. Having a bridge over such lakes will help everyone”. This received a thunderous applause from everyone present there.
