Shortly after announcing free rides for women in public transport in Delhi, CM Arvind Kejriwal called for another press briefing and made said that his Govt will announce a subsidy so that women in the capital can have free golgappas.
While speaking to the media Kejriwal said, “It has come to my notice that women have to travel to the outskirts of the city to enjoy chaat as the ones in the city serve golgappas which are expensive. So keeping ‘safety and accessibility’ of women in mind our Govt will ensure that they can enjoy chaat within the city for free.”
Sources say that that the scheme will take a few months before it can be implemented. There were few concerns over the shortage of puris given that free golgappas would increase the consumption.
A Govt official downplayed the fears and said. “We are carrying out a simulation. Arvindji and other officials will be devouring golgappas as a trial run to check if there could be a shortage in future. Everything is going as per planned. These shortage rumors are spread by members of the ruling party to jeopardize our plan.”
Many political experts opine that the Delhi CM’s latest move could be a game changer and revive the party’s flaccid image.
Many women young and old gave a huge thumbs up to the idea of free chaat. “I was not really enthu about free public transport but if you are offering me free golgappa, then you have my vote,” remarked a college goer from South Delhi.
Senior Congress Leader Sheila Dixit too was all praise for Kejriwal’s idea. She however was not happy with the timing of the announcement. “If he (Kejriwal) would have made this announcement before elections. I would have definitely gone ahead with a pre-poll alliance,” she said.
