The issue of migrants once again grabbed headlines after the Bandra incident in Mumbai. It didn’t take time for politicians to take potshots at each other over the incident.
However, to save the day there were saner voices that empathized with those stranded amidst the lockdown. Like those of Sambit Patra, who empathized with the those stuck away from their homes.
The BJP spokesperson while speaking to Faking News said, “I am holed up in this news room since the lockdown was announced. Though Arnab has been kind enough and offered me snacks, but I’d like to go home too.”
“I am in no way mocking or trivializing the distress that these people are going through. I am a migrant myself. I keep migrating from one news studio to another. I too want to go home. Honestly, I may have even forgotten my address,” he admitted.
Sambit Patra’s desperate plea went viral on social media. Netizens ire was directed at Republic TV. The fact that the channel turned down Sambit’s leave request for New Year in Dec 2019 saw many criticizing the channel and calling for its boycott.
Taking cognizance of the issue, the Broadcasting Ministry has now promised to look into the situation.
