As number of coronavirus related cases see a rise in India, news channels too are taking all possible precautions to stop the spread.
Republic TV, which till now squeezed as many panelists as possible for its debate, will now restrict the number of panelists on its prime time debate show.
Taking into consideration safety measures, the channel will now be inviting not more than 3 panelists.
The announcement was made by Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.
“We are cooperating with the Govt and taking proactive measures to ensure that there is no virus spread through our debates,” he said.
“Though it will be difficult for me because I am so used to having already 100 people screaming and shouting. I might have to go to Dadar station for few days just to get my dose of seeing noisy crowds,” he admitted.
Many viewers heaved a sigh of relief. “I have been watching the channel since its inception and since then the panelists have been increasing exponentially. I had to buy a 65 inch TV just to watch all the panelists on the debate. I hope this restriction stays for some time. Because I don’t have money to buy a bigger TV now,” remarked a regular viewer while speaking to our reporter
The news of the cap on panelists spread panic among regular faces on the channel.
Sambit Patra was seen frantically calling up the channel to inquire if he would still be part of future debates on the channel. While allaying the BJP spokespersons fear, the channel clarified that Sambit Patra had nothing to worry and a seat would be reserved for him for debate.
