Jaipur. The noble mission of integrating Bollywood and Cricket received another shot in the arm when Lalit Modi bought full rights of the romantic-warrior movie Veer from Salman Khan. Modi is all set to produce a new Bollywood movie – IPL ka Veer, an epic love story of a cricketer. The movie would star Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta. “It’s a romantic-warrior-sports-suspense-period movie, a genre never seen before in any cinema in any part of the world. I’m trying to rope in Gulzar sa’ab and A R Rehman for this, and they could win another round of Oscar and Grammy awards.” said an optimistic Lalit Modi after buying the rights from Salman Khan. Lalit Modi didn’t reveal much about the other stars and the plot of the movie, but sources inform that Modi too would play a cameo in it. Rumors were also afoot that expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh too could play a role to assuage Rajput sentiments that were hurt by the original Veer. Even though none of such details were yet available, Lalit Modi expressed confidence that the movie will be ready to be released within a few weeks. “Earlier, Bollywood movies have been conceived, produced and released within such short span of time, so I’m confident about it.” Modi dispelled the fears that he was running against time and reiterated that if he could conduct IPL2 without the government backing, he could produce a movie against all odds as well. Modi denied commenting over the possibility of casting any Pakistani cricketer or actor in the movie. “I can’t say anything for sure. Even though it’s my private production, such decision will be taken by the Home Ministry.” Modi clarified over the issue, but skipped further questions on the topic.
