Hyderabad: Ramalinga Raju, Satyam’s tainted ex-chairman and prime accused in the multi crore accounting scam, has decided to go for a career switch and enter active politics. After several offers and day long negotiations with all the political parties active in the state, Raju has surprisingly decided to join Lalu Yadav’s RJD (Rashtriya Janta Dal) as the head of operations of its Andhra Pradesh wing.
“There was a distinct cultural fit as even Laluji was accused of accounting fraud when he showed huge profits for Railways under his leadership.” explained Raju when asked why he chose RJD over all other parties. He further added, “But despite threats by Mamatadi to initiate investigations, no charges were proved against him; an art I hope to learn under his guardianship.”
Raju, who addressed a hurriedly called press conference on a hospital stretcher and wearing a face mask, as he is supposed to be unwell like most other politicians accused of scam, was joined by RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, who welcomed Raju’s decision to join his party.
“Raju’s joining hands will help our party become a national party again.” said Lalu Yadav. Lalu reiterated that Raju was only an accused in a multi-crore scam and therefore innocent until proven guilty, “I have full faith in the judicial system of the country and hence I am sure that Raju will come clean out of the whole issue.”
“We will look into the whole matter and try to find out if the charges against him were politically motivated.” Lalu Yadav said, wasting no time in defending his latest friend, and suspected that “communal forces” could be behind the Satyam scam. He also promised to stall Lok Sabha over the issue if Raju was not given clean chit by the CBI.
The move is also being viewed as a long term modernization strategy by the RJD. It is learnt that Raju will also be the chief strategist in all elections and work behind the scenes along with former RJD MP Pappu Yadav.
“Booth capturing, our USP, had become really difficult after EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) were used in Bihar elections, which caused us to lose power to Nitish Kumar. We have full faith that Raju can crack the code of the EVM’s and help RJD reestablish their dominance in Bihar later this year.” said Pappu Yadav, who is currently lodged in Patna’s Beur jail and trying his best to avoid deportation to Tihar jail in Delhi.
“Well Raju might not be a hacker, but he could show cash in Satyam’s accounts where none existed. He might as well come out with ideas to show votes for RJD in those areas of Bihar where none exist.” commented an election expert.
