Kolkata: TMC Government in West Bengal has hit out at accusations that Bengal Police is not doing anything in the state allowing anti-social elements a free run. In a press release, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has said that their entire police force is working 24X7 to check Facebook walls of each and every individual living in the state and they don’t have more than 24 hours in a day to pay attention to the riots in Basirhat as well.

Last week, a teenager was arrested over a blasphemous Facebook post that hurt religious sentiments. However, offended people weren’t satisfied with the arrest and asked the police to hand over the teenager to them, leading to communal tension in Basirhat.

Speaking to Faking News, a TMC Government insider said ,”These are baseless accusations by BJP that we have instructed the police to be a mute spectator. In fact, our Police is more proactive than any other Police force in the country. Even before any complaint, they are checking Facebook profiles of every resident to make sure that there is no blasphemous content. The moment they see something blasphemous, that person is being arrested. When they are working so hard, is it fair to accuse them of being mute spectators?”

Further, he added ,”Since the police is busy with this exercise, it is obvious that they didn’t have time to pay any attention to the riots in Basirhat. Once they check the social media profiles of everyone, they will make sure that peace prevails in the tense areas. Opposition should support us in these times instead of leveling baseless allegations.”

Meanwhile, all the free speech activists from Delhi have criticized the teenager for causing the communal tension with his Facebook post and have reminded everyone that only the rich and the famous should exercise free speech.
