Mumbai: Concerned over loss of business due to reservations protest in the city, shopkeepers are now planning to reserve 10% of their shop area which can be used by vandals to vent their anger.
The decision was taken by Shopkeepers Association of Mumbai after many of its members complained of their shops and wares being destroyed leading to loss of livelihood.
The meeting also saw representatives from the protesting community who were pleased with the 10% reservation policy.
“Humko bhi gareeb ka dukan todne ko acha nahi lagta. Lekin woh TV camera ke saamne thoda karna padta hai. Ye naya policy se humara aadmi log ache se dukan tod sakta hai,” said a protestor.
Following the implementation of this policy on the day of Mumbai bandh itself, a prominent Maratha leader cut the ribbon of a shop with aforementioned reserved area and vandalized it with a cricket bat
Sources say that if the model is successful it may be replicated in the North during Jat and Gujjar agitations.
