With questions flying all over the place over RBI Governor Urijit Patel’s shocking resignation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reassured that there was no reason to panic as Urijit was still the admin of the RBI Whatsapp group. With the Sensex reacting sharply to the news and the Congress taking potshots, the Govt. tried its best to firefight the situation.
While addressing a press conference shortly after the resignation Mr. Jaitley said, “I know you guys have a lot of questions. But let me tell you that the Govt is not trying to destroy credibility of institutions in the country. Mr. Patel may have stepped down but he will still continue carrying out his responsibilities as group admin. There is no need to panic and please don’t fall for rumors coming from opposition parties. I want every citizen to place his right hand on the chest and say ‘Aall is Well’. Hopefully this will help you feel better.”
Sources say that Urijit Patel will carry out the day to day responsibilities of of the group which include sending Good Morning messages, adding or deleting members in the group and and so on. The group has more than 100 members and Govt’s decision to let him stay as admin has for the moment pacified the members.
“He will stay till he wants to. Unless he has to make a decision between his personal commitments and personal responsibilities,” said a highly placed source.
Congress party was scathing in it’s criticism and said that this series of high profile exits was hurting the economy. Rahul Gandhi just stopped short of calling this an emergency and said that the Finance Minister’s assurances are as hollow as Arjun Kapoor’s acting.
“Ye log sab khatam kar denege. Trivedi bhi nahi bachega,” he said while speaking to the media.
Rahul also accused the BJP top brass of putting undue pressure on institutional heads. But the Govt refuted these allegations and put to rest speculations that the Governor was forced to step down because the declined a Facebook friend request from Amit Shah.
