New Delhi: After Supreme Court ordered government to disclose the name of all the foreign account holders irrespective of whether their account has black money or not, a rather funny development has taken place.
The eminent lawyers from all the political parties have spotted the opportunity of huge number of defamation lawsuits that may be filed by the people whose names were made public.
If no irregularity is found in their accounts, they all become automatically eligible to sue government of India for dragging their names in the mud. Although, political parties are still fighting as to who should get credit for recovering the black money, their lawyers stand huddled with each other thinking of big bucks coming their way.
Arun Jaitley, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Manish Tewari, Salman Khurshid and Prashant Bhushan, all have reportedly cancelled their appointments till Dec 2015 to free up time and prepare the lawsuits for the clients they believe can pay good money.
Ravi Shankar Prasad got so hyper that he even advised Jaitley to resign from the post of finance minister. But Manish Tewari for the first time in his career cut across the party line and suggested Jaitley to remain in the post to make sure that there is no U-turn from the government resulting in them losing the business opportunity.
“This is a historic moment. First time in so many years, I agree with Arvind Kejriwal that ‘Supreme Court ne aaj bata diya ki kanoon se bada is desh me koi nahi hai, not even Madam ji,” Manish Tewari said while sheepishly winking at Prashant Bhushan.
Salman Khurshid was also heard saying, “Although, I stopped handling court cases long back but thanks to Rahul Gandhi ji I never lost touch with my advocacy skills.”
A puzzled Shaitaan Khopdi™ asked him how even in this situation he managed to thank Rahul Gandhi. He replied, “Because of random statements made by Mr. Gandhi, I had to defend him in press conferences during last 10 years. That gave me much needed practice.”
Sources have revealed that noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani was also willing to quit handling the disproportionate asset case involving Jayalalitha and decided to jump in the fray before somebody reminded him that Amma may also feature in the list of account holders and he will get his share of lawsuits without losing his existing client.
