While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not pull off many surprises when it announced India’s 15-man squad for upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the fans were left agitated after Gautam Gambhir was ignored for the prestigious event. In fact so much so that Gambhir himself has alleged selection tampering, according to him every time he performs well, Shikhar Dhawan gets selected in the team.
Gambhir has been a prolific run scorer in this year’s IPL, but instead of him selectors have shown faith in players who have scored less runs than him, like Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane. This has not gone down too well with Gautam who had this to say to our Faking News reporter, “Yes, just like EVMs, selection panel can also be tampered. It is a trend since last T20 world cup that how much well I perform in domestic cricket, the selection vote goes to Shikhar. There should be inquiry into the selection process by the Supreme Court of India, because if this continues, all talented players will lose trust in the selection process. Talking of talent, Rohit always gets into the team, whether or not he plays well. But nothings in my hand, I will keep on performing, and someday when the selection panel is repaired, I will get my due.”
Kejriwal has also come out in full support of Gambhir. According him him, nowadays everything is being tampered and it is not good for Indian democracy. Selection should be purely on the basis of merit, and not on the basis of what selectors think of as a personal opinion. The Supreme Court has asked BCCI to submit the video footage of the selection meeting along with clear audio, to do a thorough probe on selection process. Meanwhile Shikhar Dhawan has asked people to have faith in the system, according to him, he has got the mandate from selectors and it shouldn’t be insulted.
