Bengaluru: Newly appointed Indian Cricket team coach Anil Kumble is busy learning Punjabi abuses these days. As per Kumble, he is doing it to have a better working relationship with the Indian test captain Virat Kohli.
Earlier, Anil Kumble was appointed the Indian coach after recommendation by the panel comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman beating stiff competition from Ravi Shastri among others. Kumble will be taking charge of the team during the tour of the Caribbean and is aiming to be fluent in Punjabi abuses before that.
Speaking to Faking News, Kumble said,”It is very important for the coach and captain to be on the same page if the team has to progress forward. Virat is a very passionate individual and he has a certain style of expressing himself. As a coach, it is my job to speak the same language so that I can understand him better. Being the test captain and our star batsman, Virat is the most important player in our set-up and I am willing to do some homework to get along with him.”
“I am going through the past footage of Virat on the ground to try and understand what abuses he is using; we have a professional lip reader helping us out. I have also seen Udta Punjab a few times over the past couple of days. I definitely think I am on the right track and will be able to abuse as fluently as any Punjabi by the time our tour starts”, Kumble added.
Many people have been impressed by the professionalism of Kumble, who was known as a tough competitor but a soft spoken man during his career. “It looks like BCCI made the right choice”, said a senior sports journalist.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has assured the new Indian coach of full co-operation and has promised to cut down on abuses to help him.
