16, Mar 2013 By Sandeep Kadian

Mohali. Discarded Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir has announced today that he will represent the state of Jammu & Kashmir in the next Ranji trophy as he bids to get back in the national team.

Gambhir made this announcement on the day the new Indian opening pair of Murali Vijay & Shikhar Dhawan put together an unbeaten stand of 283 for the first wicket with Dhawan unbeaten on 185 and Vijay on 83.

Speaking to Faking News, Gauti said, “Playing for the national team remains my biggest dream. I want to get back in the national team at any cost. Looking at the way Vijay and now Dhawan has performed, I may have to wait for a long time before that happens if I keep playing for Delhi. I had heard that government wants to defuse the tense political situation in the state of Jammu & Kashmir by including a J&K cricketer into the national team, so I thought I should explore this option.”

“Earlier I was thinking about the conventional method of making it to the Indian team by signing up for CSK. I was even willing to invite the wrath of all the SRK fans by leaving a team owned by him. There was even a threat of getting branded as Maoist after my departure from Kolkata, and I was ready for it. But Srini Mama didn’t like the fact that one of my friends has appeared in a cement ad. He refused my application for that reason. These friends I tell you, my mother was right in telling me, Tere dost khud to doobenge aur saath me tujhe bhi le jaayenge.”

When we asked Gambhir about Parvez Rasool, who was the player government wanted in the national team, Gambhir replied, “Yaar, Rasool is an all-rounder. An all-rounder’s vacancy will come up any day when Ravindra Jadeja regains form. Don’t get fooled by the last 2 test matches, form is temporary but Jadeja’s class is permanent. Rasool can get an opportunity as and when Jadeja’s form resurfaces. I’m not blocking his chances!

When we contacted officials of the J&K Ranji team, they informed us that they have not confirmed anything to Gambhir yet. An official on the condition of anonymity said, “Gautam Gambhir has made the request but we haven’t confirmed anything yet. Already there are pending applications of Manoj Tiwary and Rohit Sharma to consider. Only after that we will get to Gauti’s request.”

When we asked the other discarded Indian opener, Virender Sehwag whether he will be trying any such tactic to get back in the national side, he replied, “Why is Gauti wasting so much energy? I plan to get out for a duck in both IPL matches against CSK and board the plane to South Africa (India’s next test series).”
