Indian politician wins hearts at Olympics by not going to Rio

17, Aug 2016 By @jurnoleast

Indians may not be winning medals at Rio, but they are definitely winning hearts. The latest to join the list is a minister from Haryana who declined a visit to Rio when he had the chance. Babulal Sharma, transport minister of Haryana, has won the hearts of millions across the country after making public his decision. The minister and his contingent were next in line after Anil Vij, another minister from Haryana, to attend the Olympics village to support Indian athletes participating in the games.

No sooner Mr. Sharma made public his decision, social media went hysterical with some even going as far to say that his gesture was nothing short of a gold medal for the country.

Babulal’s entourage that was supposed to travel with him, however was not happy with the turn of events. “Ye kya ho gaya Babulalji ko? Itna acha mauka mil raha tha Rio ghoomne ka, aise hi gava diya,” cribbed his assistant.

There are speculations as to what caused the change of heart but no word yet from the minister who chose to maintain silence. Party sources say it could be fear of one particular news anchor.

Meanwhile, amidst the news of politicians coming up with excuses to visit Rio, there was news of Olympics committee engaging the services of Gyandev Ahuja, BJP MLA from Rajasthan.

Mr.Ahuja, famous for his allegation about liquor bottles and condoms at JNU campus, was called to the Olympics village to keep an account of condoms being used. “We believe Mr. Gyandev Ahuja has specific skills in counting used condoms, which can be of valuable assistance to us,” said a senior  official from the managing committee.
