Jaipur: Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani said the three-time champions weren’t expecting to buy Yuvraj Singh and Lasith Malinga at their base prices at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 auction on Tuesday in Jaipur. Yuvraj, who has been a shadow of his former self on the field in the recent past, went unsold during the first round of auctions on Tuesday before he was brought back in the accelerated bidding towards. But Yuvraj himself was in shock after hearing that he has been selected by Mumbai Indians.
Yuvraj had started taking an online course for coaching as he thought that Mumbai Indians have bought him as a coach and not a player. Yuvraj has been so out of form that he and his family had given up hopes on his selection for this year’s IPL. But MI came as a surprise bidder for the former India international and Yuvi soon started taking coaching lessons.
It was only during late night when Akash Ambani called Yuvi to confirm him that he has been selected as a player and not coach. Yuvi was still not convinced by the idea and called up Neeta Ambani to again make sure just in case if Akash was wrong. But even Neeta Ambani made it clear that he should forget taking coaching lessons and start taking cricket practice seriously as he has been indeed selected as a cricket player.
