Soon to be appointed BCCI President Sourav Ganguly seems to have already taken charge of affairs. His recent comment on Vijay Shankar’s post is definitely an indication that things aren’t going to get easier for players who like to flaunt their chiseled body on social media.
Vijay Shankar has been out of action for quite some time due to injury and recently shared an image of his toned physique, which some say was announcement of his comeback.
But Ganguly is clearly not impressed and has made it clear to players within the team and outside of it that cricketing skills trump all else.
Sourav also said that such attempts by players to find an place in team India should be discouraged. “It is good to know that players are back from injury. But talent is all that counts. Not how many tattoos you have or your six packs. You may have contacts but that won’t impress me much. I am not Karan Johar and you are not star kid. Only your performance will fetch you a place in the team,” he said while speaking exclusively to Faking News.
The statement was also an indirect message to coach Ravi Shastri, who immediately after the announcement of new BCCI President, was seen shirtless in the nets. Sources say that Shastri is trying his best to impress Ganguly. Both were vying for the post of Team India coach and haven’t been on the best of terms since then.
Apparently, once Ganguly takes over as the President, a diktat will be issued wherein only Ganguly’s shirtless celebration pic in Lords can be used for sharing on social media.
Insiders say that though few palyers like Hardik and captian Virat were seen grumbling about it, they have agreed to comply once they get the orders.
