Delhi: Delhi Daredevils have vacated their customary last spot in the IPL table largely due to the consistently good performances by their wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. Pant is now the top scorer this season with a total of 375 scored at a frightening strike rate of 180. This has left a lot of DD fans concerned as they think that the team is losing its identity and along with that, their hold on the wooden spoon.

However, all those fans can breathe easy now as the Delhi Daredevils management has assured the fans that they will take corrective action and the star Rishabh Pant will be dropped from the team for the next match. As per sources, they have also decided not to retain Pant for the next season of the IPL to avoid a repeat next year.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a member of DD’s backroom staff said, “We were very confident of finishing 8th at the start of the season but we are no longer certain of that now. Mumbai Indians brought their A game and displaced us there. Now after the win over Rajasthan Royals, we have moved right up to 6th and we really don’t like that as some of us are scared of heights. One of the reasons for this rise has been Rishabh Pant and we must do something about that. For the next game, we are definitely going to drop him and bring in a new face who can give us a solid 10 from 20 balls.”

Furthermore, he added,” We know how much the last spot means to our fans and we don’t want to disappoint them. If we try hard enough, I am sure we can mount a stiff challenge even though Mumbai really seem determined to get that last spot. We really didn’t expect that as we were focused on Kings XI Punjab and considered them our main rivals.”

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab fans have demanded a CBI enquiry in to the side’s good form this year which has seen them reach dangerously close to qualifying for the playoffs.
