Mumbai: Veteran youngster Parthiv Patel has been recalled to the Indian team for the 3rd test against England in place of an injured Wriddhiman Saha. The move has shocked many Indian supporters and they have questioned the selectors’ decision to recall Parthiv 8 years after his last test match.
Some people have alleged that Parthiv Patel provided the change of 2000 Rs to all selectors and in return, they brought him back into the national team. Change of 2000 Rs has become incredibly valuable in India these days due to the limited circulation of 500 Rs notes and limited availability of old 100 Rs notes.
However, BCCI has hit out at these rumours and clarified that Parthiv has been selected totally on the basis of his ability and it has nothing to do with 2000 Rs note. Parthiv has scored a hundred and 3 fifties in his last 3 first class matches and that has helped him return to the national side.
“These allegations are absolutely ridiculous and totally malicious. Yes our liquidity is bit of an issue after Lodha panel froze our accounts and then government made cash at our homes useless but it doesn’t mean we start selecting players for 100 Rs notes. Parthiv has been playing well and Saha has bit of an injury so we decided to bring in Parthiv for the 3rd test”, a BCCI official said on the condition of anonymity.
When we asked why they didn’t opt for a youngster to get him some international experience in home conditions, he said,”Have you seen Parthiv Patel? He is Anti-Afridi, his age increases but he remains a youngster, there is nobody younger than him in domestic cricket right now.”
Meanwhile, opposition parties have already attacked PM Modi and said that his demonetization policy is now affecting Indian team selection as well.
