Rahane is Vice-Captain because he is permanent member of side and he is permanent because he is Vice-Captain: Ravi Shastri

Adelaide, Australia: After throwing his wicket away to a poor shot during the ongoing Test match against Australia, Ajinkya Rahane’s spot in the playing XI is once again being questioned.

To defend the under-pressure batsman, Coach Ravi Shastri has come out in support of his Vice-Captain and explained the reason behind his continuous selection.

Speaking to media before the start of 2nd day’s play, Mr. Shastri said that Ajinkya Rahane is the designated vice-captain because he is an ever-present member of the side and since he is one of the few ever present members of the side, it is a no brainer to give him the vice-captaincy.

Mr. Shastri said, “The boys played well, they showed a lot of intent except Pujara. We will have a private session with him to explain the importance of intent over runs. Rest of the batting looked really good and positive out there and we have to keep doing that to make sure we compete well during the course of the series.”

“As far as Rahane’s position in the team is concerned, he has to be a part of the group because he is the vice-captain and since he is a senior member who is always part of the group, we might as well keep him on as the vice-captain. It is great to be the coach of such wonderful people like Rahul, Vijay and Rahane who are always on hand to hand me the drinks and don’t waste too much time on the ground”, he went on to add.

We tried to ask him about the chances of an Indian comeback in the Test match but at that point, someone said barf aa gayi and Mr. Shastri chose to leave the press conference.
