Mumbai. Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha returns to the Test squad after missing 14 matches since suffering a series of injuries. MSK Prasad made this shocking announcement during the selection meeting for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. But BCCI will have to pay for it. Saha had lost all hopes of a recall and had bought a costly retirement plan from a private insurer.
The premiums are pretty high and he had to buy it as he was sure that MSK Prasad will never select him. He has requested the BCCI to pay his premiums.
Saha immediately called MSK Prasad after the team was announced and asked for the premium money. BCCI has blasted Prasad for his mistake as now with the salary to Saha they also have to pay the premiums. This could have been avoided if a younger keeper like Dhoni was selected in the team.
Dhoni still has 4-5 years of cricket left in him according to a BCCI official. It would be interesting to see if BCCI gives in to th demands of Saha, but if they do so, it would be tough for the selectors to pick older players in the future as they may to ask the board to pay their pension premiums.
