Worried Pune consider replacing the captain after 3 wins in a row

25, Apr 2017 By Sandeep Kadian

Pune: Rising Pune Supergiant’s management is a worried lot these days, the reason being their team’s IPL performance. Pune have won 3 IPL games in a row and are threatening to finish in the playoff spots this year, something strictly against the tradition of Pune IPL teams. Now the management is considering a proposal of replacing Steve Smith as the captain of the team to revive the misfortune of the side.

Steve Smith
Sorry Smith, you won too much

Previous Pune franchise in IPL, Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiants have always struggled in the IPL. They have always waged a stiff battle for the last spot with Kings XI Punjab and Delhi daredevils. However, the sudden improvement in form this year hasn’t impressed the management and Steve Smith may have to take the fall for it.

Confirming the rumor, a Pune camp insider said ,”Yes there have been concerns. We are half way through the campaign and we are still in the top 4. Is this how we will compete for the wooden spoon? The management wants to arrest this movement upwards as soon as possible and a new captain is likely to be introduced before the next game. Smith hasn’t done well at all in his role. As a veteran of Pune IPL franchises, he should have known our culture better.”

“We won the first game but recovered to lose 3 games in a row, everything was going well. We were giving stiff competition to Delhi and Bangalore but suddenly, the team started winning! We thought one win is an aberration but then Dhoni won another one and then they even beat Mumbai at Wankhede. That is when the alarm bells went off and they decided we must look for change”, he added.

Apparently Pune haven’t decided who will be the new captain but as per sources, the new captain will get strict instructions to bowl Ashoke Dinda’s 4 overs during every game.
